Caring Creatives Directory

The Caring Creatives Directory is primarily a place to support artists and other creatives, through links to each artist's website, online store, or other contact method. This directory was catalyzed from seeing many artists struggle to find places to post links to their site, to sell their art in stores, or otherwise make a living from their artwork. It's doubly difficult to do these things while trying to avoid catching deadly and disabling diseases, and the social media sites we're told to rely on are not intended to help us survive capitalism. It's too easy to become banned from these sites, not to mention how much personal information they require to even have an account to begin with. The Caring Creatives Directory is intended to help meet the need of connecting artists to potential patrons, and to other resources they may need to continue making or selling their art. This directory has 3 categories: Creatives, Resources, and Venues. The Creatives section is for any artist who wants to be listed.
Creatives must self-attest to still be taking precautions against airborne contagion. Their own definition of this is enough; the directory is an anarchist-style project, with nobody "in charge" of enforcing rules.
The Resources section is for places where creatives can get supplies for very cheap or free.
Stores with many locations, or which are owned by a corporation (like Goodwill, Ross, or the Dollar Store) will not be listed regardless of good prices. The aim of this directory is to survive capitalism by creating our own networks of support, and giving money to large businesses does not serve that goal.
This section will include businesses that don't require masks, but places that do require them will be clearly indicated.
All listings in this section will have locations included.
The Venues section is for places that Creatives can sell their art.
This can be brick-and-mortar locations or online options, if they're not corporations (ex: RedBubble and Amazon self publish will not be listed). All relevant locations will be included.
The directory does not have geographical limits. When a submission includes an Indigenous name for its location, that is the name that will be used.
This website can help you learn the original names of places across Turtle Island (so-called "north america"). Other pages of this site include maps for other continents and regions. Decolonial Atlas
This directory requires users/participants to submit listings. While the organizer would love to dedicate time to finding listings to populate the directory, they are unfortunately a disabled/chronically ill person with many other responsibilities, including other mutual aid projects. Please do not share this directory on facebook, twitter, reddit, or other public websites. Those of us who maintain contagion precautions are increasingly targeted for harassment and violence, and if the directory fell into the wrong hands it could compromise the safety of the artists listed.
If you'd like to share the directory, please send it directly to artists who may want to be included; and in semi-private spaces, such as a community discord or slack server, signal groups, or private message groups on social media sites. If you run a newsletter for folks who maintain contagion precautions, that would also be an appropriate place to share the link. If you're not sure if the place you'd like to share the link is appropriate, feel free to send me an email and we can figure it out together [email protected]
